School Dinners at West Leigh
We are proud to provide nutritious, delicious and fulfilling school meals, freshly prepared on site each day by our dedicated in-house Catering Team. Our two Catering Managers, Mrs Freeman and Mrs Maddin, oversee the service and are committed to ensuring that our children enjoy a varied and balanced choice of meals.
We carefully source our ingredients, with all our meat supplied by a local butcher. Our meals follow the nutritional guidelines set by the Food Standards Agency and include a variety of protein, fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrains and dairy, while keeping added sugar, salt and unhealthy fats to a minimum.
Our menus are refreshed each term to make the most of seasonal ingredients and ensure our children continue to enjoy a varied and exciting choice of meals throughout the year.
Healthy Eating and Education
Lunchtime is an important part of the school day. As well as providing nutritious and delicious food, we want our children to enjoy a positive and sociable experience at lunchtime.
Our catering and lunchtime teams encourage children to try new foods, make healthy choices and develop good eating habits. Lunchtime also provides an opportunity for children to develop their independence, practise good table manners and enjoy sitting and eating with their friends.
We believe that helping children to understand and enjoy healthy food from an early age provides them with positive habits that can last a lifetime.
Special Dietary Requirements
We understand that some children have specific dietary needs. If a suitable vegan or allergen-friendly option is not available on the daily menu, we can provide an appropriate alternative wherever possible.
If your child has a food allergy, intolerance or other special dietary requirement, please contact the school office so that we can discuss their needs and make sure they are safely catered for.
Universal Free School Meals
Under the Government's Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal.
Children are also welcome to bring a healthy packed lunch from home if they prefer.
Please see our school dinner menus for this term below along with some healthy packed lunch ideas.

Healthy Lunch Ideas
Parents often fill lunch boxes with snacks so their child has lots of choice. Unfortunately, children usually try to eat it all and miss out on play and exercise time. And after eating crisps, chocolate, biscuits and meat snacks, when it comes to the healthy banana, they may be just too full!
REMEMBER:
- Less is more – take off the pressure and leave them time for play and exercise.
- Junk the junk – take away the temptation. Don’t worry, they won’t starve!
- Mix it up – make each day different and introduce your child to exciting new tastes.
